Harry Thompson murdered his girlfriend Rose Smith 41 by slitting her throat at 36 Cross Street, Chatham on 8 February 1926.

Harry Thompson had travelled from Wales to Chatham to work and had taken lodgings with Rose Smith whose husband was a petty officer in the Royal Navy and away. They began a relationship but soon began to argue. When Harry Thompson found out that she was also seein gother men he killed her, nearly decapicating her with a razor.

In court he smiled throughout the proceedings, especially so when Rose Smith's injuries were read out.

He said he had no recollection of murdering her.

A witness who saw him in the street afterwards said that he said 'I have cut her head off. Im going to give myself up'.
